About Weng Yang

All of us have life experiences that we would rather not re-visit. I'm no different, yet painful experiences were the very stepping stones to me discovering God.

Against the backdrop of a tumultuous childhood, God showed Himself to be real. While life was rather simple growing up with my Mom, Dad and three younger sisters, it was tough living with my Dad's regular outbursts of rage and anger.

After 20 years of living in constant fear, my mom finally took us and fled our previous life. It was unimaginably exhilarating then. But even as we basked in the bright sunshine of our new-found freedom, I realised one day that I was still living in the shadows of my previous life.

The anger towards my Dad were so deep-seated, it was impossible to extricate myself from it. It took a decade of God's patient intervention, counselling and renewal of my perspective from the bible for me to finally make peace with my Dad.

In 2004, I got married to a person who is now the anchor and pillar of my life. Joe is the complete opposite of who I am. He is spontaneous, adventurous and curious about a wide variety of subjects in life. But above all, he is immensely curious about God and spiritual matters.

He is such a loving and involved father to our son that it amazes me. How did he, who grew up on  the streets, separated from his parents know how to show such love and devotion? Where did he learn how to love when he was shown no love by his own family? It is truly the amazing work of God in him.

Although we do not have much materially, we are rich in our relationships, family life, and in shared values. He has blessed the family with strong spiritual leadership and commitment.

Now, I look back on the past four decades of my life and am awed by God's tremendous love for me and indeed for His creation. Everyone can experience this goodness. If only we would believe.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16
